Pink "Mystery Wood" Bowl, 1999
Approximately 8 inches diameter. This bowl was made from a log I found on the street after a neighbor cut down a yard tree. I never did find out with certainty what species it is (someone suggested that it could be Dogwood). The wood was hard, bright pink and it worked fairly easily. I turned a thin-walled bowl while the wood was still very wet, to try to maximize the distortion during drying. The end result is a saddle-shaped bowl with an oval mouth that has lots of cool ripples in the surface.
